Criteria for awarding the ISVA Lifetime Service Award

  1. Usually a full working life of 35-40 years or more, dedicated mainly to veterinary science in the sheep industry.
  2. Awarded near, at or after retirement.
  3. Evidence of frequent, sustained contributions to veterinary meetings or congresses on sheep subjects (contributions include organisation, running, speaking, posters, judging, refereeing of papers).
  4. Sustained, meaningful contributions to the International Sheep Veterinary Community via ISVA, ISVC, or other international activities.  Frequent participation in ISVC events is required.
  5. Extension or service to farmers, para-veterinary or allied professions on sheep subjects.
  6. Relevant publications on sheep veterinary matters: scientific, professional and lay types.
  7. Important contributions to knowledge and expertise on veterinary matters in the sheep industry.
  8. Evidence of national and international recognition (invitations to local and overseas congresses, external examination, committees) and respect.
  9. Service on national professional organisations.

Procedure

  • Any ISVA member country or current ISVA committee member may nominate a candidate for consideration.
  • The proposal should meet most or all the criteria set and must be in electronic form.
  • Serving committee members are precluded from nomination.
  • If a proposal is not successful it can be resubmitted in amended form at a future date.
  • The award is only made once to any person.
  • The ISVA committee may form a subcommittee to deal with nominations and make recommendations.
  • Rules may be set out or amended but must carry the prior approval of the ISVA committee.
  • Nominations must be made in good time for due consideration and decision prior to an award being made.
  • Awards are normally made at quadrennial ISVA congresses but special circumstances may alter this.
  • More information or supportive evidence may be requested if time allows.
  • Decisions should be unanimous but otherwise by majority vote of the participating ISVA committee.
  • No correspondence or discussion of decisions with nominators should be entertained, the decision of the ISVA committee is final.
  • The award is in the form of a suitable certificate signed by the current ISVA President
